Declare a Shop Closure
A closure is a day the workshop is not open — a public holiday, a shutdown week, a one-off. Declaring it stops work being planned for a day when nobody is there.
Who can do this: Workshop Controllers, Location Managers, Org Admins and Account Owners.
Declaring a closure
Open the toolbar’s More options and choose Mark a day as holiday
You can also declare tomorrow’s closure directly from the day close screen.
Choose the date
Read what will happen
“No work will be scheduled for that day. Cars carried over tonight will be held for the next open day instead. You can undo this until the shop opens.”
Confirm
What a closure does
- Nothing is planned for that day.
- Carry-over skips it. Vehicles that would have continued into the closed day are held for the next open day.
- Day close is not required for it. A declared closed day does not need closing and does not stop the following day’s scheduling.
Undoing a closure
A closure can be undone until the shop opens on that day.
“The shop will be open on that day again. Any cars held for the day after will move back onto it.”
Once the day has begun, the closure can no longer be undone — the message says so. Declare and correct closures in advance rather than on the morning.
Closures versus operating hours
Two different things:
| Use | For |
|---|---|
| Operating hours | Days you are regularly closed — every Sunday, half-day Saturdays |
| A declared closure | A specific date you are not open — a holiday, a shutdown, a one-off |
A shop closed every Sunday should set Sunday as closed in operating hours, not declare a closure every week.
Planning ahead
Declare your public holidays at the start of the year. It takes a few minutes and it prevents the recurring problem of promises made for a day nobody is in.
At Al Futtaim Auto in Dubai, the operations manager declares the year’s holidays each January across all four locations. Closures are per location, so a site with different local holidays keeps its own.
Common questions
We are closing early rather than all day. That is operating hours for the day, not a closure. Adjust the hours for that date.
Does declaring a closure cancel work already promised for that day? No. It stops new work being planned into it and holds carry-over for the next open day. Vehicles already promised for that date need re-promising with the customer.
Do closures apply to all locations? No. They are per location.
Can I declare a range of days? Declare each day. For a long shutdown, doing them together takes a minute.
Somebody declared the wrong day. Undo it, as long as that day has not begun.
