Record Certifications
Certifications are formal qualifications, and BayWise treats them differently from skills: they are a safety gate. Safety-gated work only reaches a technician who is certified and currently in date.
Who can do this: Location Managers, Org Admins and Account Owners.
Recording a certification
Open the technician and find Certifications
Choose the certification type
From your workshop’s list. If the one you need is not there, add a certification type.
Record the level or class
Where the certification has grades.
Record the expiry date
The most important field. Without it, BayWise cannot know when the qualification lapses.
Record the credential reference, issuing body and jurisdiction
Certificate number, the body that issued it, and where it applies — for example a national institute and the country it covers.

What certification does
High-voltage and EV work reaches only technicians holding a current certification for it. This is absolute. It does not bend for a busy day, a waiting customer, or a manager’s instruction — and that is the point of it.
On a vehicle where a certification is relevant, the detail pane flags a certification that has expired or is expiring, so a lapse is visible before it becomes a problem.
Keeping them current
An expired certification takes that person out of the qualified pool for the work it covers, immediately. If they were your only certified technician, that work becomes unplaceable.
Practical routine: review certifications monthly. It takes a few minutes, and the alternative is discovering a lapse on the morning a high-voltage vehicle arrives.
At Al Futtaim Auto in Dubai, the operations manager checks expiries at the start of each month across all four sites, and books renewals two months ahead of the date. High-voltage work has never stopped for a lapsed certificate.
Adding your own certification types
If a qualification your workshop recognises is not in the list, add it as a new certification type. It becomes available for everyone.
Add the qualifications that genuinely gate work or that you need for audit. A list of every course anyone has ever attended is a list nobody maintains.
Common questions
What is the difference between a skill and a certification? A skill says somebody can do the work. A certification says they are formally qualified and in date. Safety-gated work needs both.
A certification has no expiry. Leave the date empty. It shows as having no expiry or details, and does not lapse.
Somebody’s certification expired and work has stopped reaching them. That is correct behaviour. Record the renewal and it resumes.
Can a manager override a certification requirement for one job? No. Certification gates are not overridable, deliberately.
Do certifications appear to the technician? They are on the technician’s record, visible to anyone who can see technicians.
We are audited on this. Is the record sufficient? BayWise holds the type, level, expiry, credential reference, issuing body and jurisdiction. Whether that satisfies a particular audit is a question for your auditor, not for us — keep the paper certificates too.
