Set a Bay’s Role and Capabilities
These choices decide which jobs land in this bay. Get them right and cars flow to the correct bay on their own; get them wrong and jobs pile up or bounce.

Holding and delivery bays perform no work, so BayWise does not ask them for capabilities or equipment — the form says so rather than leaving empty fields.

Decide about sub-types
Leave every sub-type unchecked and the bay does everything in that group. Tick specific sub-types only where the bay is genuinely limited.
A general mechanical bay: tick Mechanical, leave the sub-types alone. A bay that only does brakes and express work: tick Mechanical, then tick only Express and Brakes.

Add the equipment
Equipment is what the bay physically has, drawn from your workshop’s equipment catalogue.
Four kinds of work will not save without it:

If you tick one of these without the equipment, the form says exactly what to add before saving.
This gate is about safety, not tidiness. Never resolve it by ticking equipment the bay does not have — you would be creating a standing instruction to send high-voltage work to a bay that cannot isolate it.

Getting the breadth right
The judgement call on every bay is how broad to be.
Too broad and the bay receives work it should not — and because it is technically eligible, it will keep receiving it.
Too narrow and the bay sits idle while vehicles queue for others, or appear as unschedulable.
The test: would you be content for this work to arrive here on a Tuesday morning without anyone asking you? If not, do not tick it.
A bay that could take a job in an emergency but should not receive one routinely is a bay that will receive one routinely. Leave it unticked and override on the rare day you need to.
Worked example
Al Futtaim Auto, Dubai — bay 7, the alignment bay.
Role: Work. Capabilities: Tyre & Wheel — all sub-types. Mechanical — Suspension / steering only. Equipment: four-post lift, alignment rack, tyre machine.
Not ticked: Mechanical express, brakes, engine — because the alignment rack is the constraint in the shop and filling it with oil changes is how the alignment queue builds.
The description finishes the job: “Alignment bay — four-post rack, wheel alignment, tyre fitting and balancing, and suspension work where alignment is part of the job. Not for routine servicing, brakes, or engine work — this rack is the bottleneck for alignment.”
Common questions
What if I tick nothing? The bay is eligible for nothing and no work will be planned into it.
What is the difference between a capability and equipment? The capability is what the bay is for. Equipment is what it has. Both matter: the capability makes the bay eligible, and for safety-gated work the equipment is what makes it allowed.
Do capabilities restrict which technician is used? No. Capabilities belong to the bay; skills belong to the technician. Both must be satisfied.
Can I copy one bay’s setup to another? Set up the first, then use the presets and repeat the ticks. Identical bays should genuinely be identical.
