Use AI to Set Up a Bay
Setting up twenty bays by hand is the slowest hour in BayWise. A photograph shortens it considerably.
Who can do this: Location Managers, Org Admins and Account Owners. Requires a plan that includes AI-assisted features, and a configured provider.
Setting up a bay from a photo
Open the bay and add a photo
Drag and drop, or capture one on a tablet. Photograph the whole bay including the lift and any specialist equipment — not a close-up of one tool.
Wait for the scan
The form shows that it is scanning the photo for equipment.
Review what was suggested
Equipment and capabilities are ticked as suggestions. The message confirms: photo scanned, equipment and capabilities suggested, review before saving.
Deal with anything unrecognised
If items were spotted that are not in your equipment catalogue, they are listed with two choices: Add to catalogue, or Ignore.
Correct the suggestions
This is the important step. The photo shows what is in the bay; it does not know what you use the bay for.
Save
Always review before saving. A photograph showing a two-post lift and a scan tool will suggest broad mechanical and diagnostic capability — which may be far broader than the work you actually want sent there.
Composing a description
Compose with AI drafts a bay description from the role, capabilities and equipment you have set.
Treat it as a first draft. It will describe what the bay can do accurately, and it will not know the exclusion — the sentence saying what the bay must not receive, which is the most valuable part.
Add that yourself before saving.
When AI is not configured
Everything still works. The screen says plainly that vision is not configured and equipment auto-detection will not work, and you can still upload a photo for identification and select equipment manually.
A photo is worth adding regardless — it makes the bay recognisable on the board.
Common questions
The scan failed. The form says so and asks you to add equipment manually. A poor photo — dark, partial, or of a bay full of vehicles — is the usual cause.
It suggested capabilities we do not want here. Untick them. Suggestions are a starting point, and being too broad is the more expensive mistake.
It missed equipment that is clearly visible. Add it manually. Anything it did not recognise can also be added to your catalogue from the same screen.
Does the photo get used for anything else? It appears on the bay card so the bay is recognisable.
Can I use this for technicians too? There is an equivalent: describe a technician in plain words and have their skills suggested.
